Shoonoyo – Feast of the Dormition of Virgin Mary

Shoonoyo (a Syriac word meaning “departure” or “falling asleep”) is celebrated on August 15 each year. It marks the passing or “dormition” of the Virgin Mary from this life, as well as the belief that God took her body and soul into heaven.
